THE BOOK OF MORMON CHAPTER 8 --
"Behold, I speak unto you as if ye were present, and yet ye are not. But behold, Jesus Christ hath shown you unto me, and I know your doing... O ye pollutions, ye hypocrites, ye teachers, who sell yourselves for that which will canker, why have ye polluted the holy church of God?

Mormon leaders to Oregon
militia:
Your
religion isn’t with you Salt Lake Tribune - Jan 04 2016
If Ammon Bundy and other
Mormons involved in taking over a federal wildlife refuge in Oregon believe
their religion is backing them, they should reconsider.
Leaders of The Church of
Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints "strongly condemn the armed seizure of
the facility," spokesman Eric Hawkins said in a news release Monday,
"and are deeply troubled by the reports that those who have seized the
facility suggest that they are doing so based on scriptural principles."
The release further states
that "this armed occupation can in no way be justified on a scriptural
basis."
Americans "are
privileged to live in a nation where conflicts with government or private
groups can — and should — be settled using peaceful means, according to the
laws of the land."
That statement echoes the
church's 12th article of faith, which declares, "We believe in being
subject to kings (In THIS COUNTRY WE ARE KINGS), presidents, rulers, and magistrates,
in obeying, honoring, and sustaining the law."
The Utah-based faith's
statement, posted on mormonnewsroom.org,
also links to a 1992 speech by senior LDS apostle Dallin H. Oaks, a former Utah
Supreme Court justice, in which he warns against "excessive zeal" in
creating so-called militias. (Added)
The LDS Church
released the following statementin
regards to the ongoing situation:
"While the disagreement
occurring in Oregon about the use of federal lands is not a Church matter,
Church leaders strongly condemn the armed seizure of the facility and are
deeply troubled by the reports that those who have seized the facility suggest
that they are doing so based on scriptural principles. This armed occupation can in no way be
justified on a scriptural basis. We are privileged to live in a
nation where conflicts with government or private groups can — and should — be
settled using peaceful means, according to thelaws of the land."
D&C 134:11 “We believe that men
should appeal to the civil law for Redress ofALL Wrongs and Grievances,
where personal abuse is inflicted or the Right of Property or Character Infringed, where
such laws exist as will protect the same; but we believe that ALL men
are justified in DefendingThemselves, their Friends, and Property
…from the unlawful assaults and encroachments of all persons in times of
exigency, where immediate appeal cannot be made to the laws, and relief
afforded.”
D&C 134:2 "We believe that NO government can exist in peace, except such laws are framed and held inviolate as will Secure to EACHIndividual 1) the free exercise of conscience, 2) the Right and Control of Property, 3) and the Protection of life (GUNS)."
